Population Balance Equation (PBE)
SOLUTION OF PBES TO MODEL CHANGES OF PARTICLES PROPERTIES
DESCRIPTION
The mathematical modeling of processes that involve particulate systems has gained much attention to improve product quality and production efficiency of industrial plants. The PBE solution is an essential tool to describe the evolution of a population of particles being processed. For example, particle size distributions (PSDs) often change in industry due to different mechanisms, such as aggregation, growth, breakage, attrition and nucleation. The proper solution of the PBE allows to track the evolution of the PSDs in a given unit operation.
The aim of this course is to provide the basic knowledge to correctly formulate the population balance equation, as well as to use accurate numerical solution techniques.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Students, researchers, engineers and anyone interested in modeling the evolution of a population of particles being processed. The mathematical complexity of the PBE solution can be adapted to the audience level.
