DESCRIPTION

Various mass and volume mean sizes as well as PSDs are measured and analyzed by sieving, laser diffraction and optical and electron microscopy. Aerodynamic PSDs and mean diameter are determined in a cascade impactor. Particles shape can be evaluated by image analysis of electron microscopy micrographs.

AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT:

• Horiba Laser Diffraction LA-950V2. Range of particle size: 10 nm – 3000 ?m; wet and dry processing
• Z-sizer 3000. Range of particle size: 2 nm – 5 ?m
• ZONITEST. Particle size analysis by dry sieving of powders, granules and/or pellets. Size range: wire cloth sieves (ASTM), mesh opening 25- 9525 microns.
• Next Generation Impactor -NGI, Copley Scientific. This device also allows establishing respirable fractions of powders and dose uniformity of drugs for inhalatory administration. Range: 15 – 100 L/min (Particle size: 0.24 -11.7 microns).
• EVO 40-XVP, LEO scanning electron microscope.
