Encapsulation by Spray Drying

FUNDAMENTALS OF MICROENCAPSULATION BY SPRAY DRYING

DESCRIPTION

Microencapsulation consists in packing compounds into sealed capsules at micrometer scale, in order to modify their properties, protect them and/or control their delivery. This tecnhology is applied in a wide variety of industries, including food, agriculture, catalysts, biomedical, chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. In this course the basic concepts of the following aspects of microencapsulation are introduced:

• Microencapsulation techniques, with emphasis in spray drying
• Selection of wall materials
• Effect of process conditions on the microencapsulation performance
• Microcapsules’ characterization: morphology, particle size, among others
• Industrial applications

TARGET AUDIENCE

Managerial, develoment and technical staff of food, pharmaceutical chemical industries, among many others.
