Thermogravimetric analysis
AMOUNT AND RATE OF MASS CHANGE OF A SAMPLE AS A FUNCTION OF TEMPERATURE OR TIME
DESCRIPTION
Measurements are used primarily to determine the composition of materials and to predict their thermal stability at temperatures up to 1200°C. The technique can characterize materials that exhibit weight loss or gain due to decomposition, oxidation, or dehydration.
AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT:
• TGA 5500 Discovery Series, TA Instruments
ADVANTAGES
• Minimal sample size and preparation
• Qualitative or quantitative analysis
• Analysis of mass loss thermal events from physical and chemical changes of materials
APPLICATIONS
Thermal stability | Compositional analysis | Oxidative stability | Quantification of volatiles/moisture | Screening of additives | Residue and filler content |
